Princess Diana's Legendary Dress Sold. Someone Paid Half a Million Dollars for It!

Lady Di's clothes and accessories were auctioned off on Thursday. The event, billed as "the largest auction of Princess Diana's wardrobe," attracted a crowd of collectors. Among the items that went under the hammer was a bright blue, floral-print silk dress known as the "Caring Dress." The outfit, worn by the princess while visiting hospital patients, sold for a staggering $520,000 (almost PLN 1.9 million).

On June 26, the "Princess Diana's Style & A Royal Collection" auction took place at the luxurious Peninsula Beverly Hills hotel in California , featuring over 200 items of clothing and accessories that once belonged to the famous British aristocrat.

"This collection is not only the most comprehensive offering of Princess Diana's wardrobe ever presented, but also a tribute to her elegance, grace, radiance and indomitable spirit. Each item reflects a significant moment in history," said Martin Nolan, co-founder and CEO of Julien's Auctions.

The creation that attracted the most attention from event attendees was the "Caring Dress" - a bright blue, silk dress covered with a floral pattern, which owes its name to the circumstances in which Lady Di appeared in public wearing it.

The "Queen of Human Hearts" donned the expressive outfit when visiting hospital patients. The dress from the collection of the British fashion house Belville Sassoon, in which the aristocrat was photographed as many as nine times, went to Renae Plant, the founder of the virtual Princess Diana Museum. The new owner paid as much as $520,000 (almost PLN 1.9 million) for it.

Many other items of clothing and accessories from the late style icon’s wardrobe went under the hammer. Among the items up for sale was a floral ensemble by Bruce Oldfield that Diana wore to the 1987 Royal Ascot horse races.

The set, consisting of a blouse and a pencil skirt, was sold for $260,000. The price for a scarlet ski suit , in which the duchess skied down the slopes in Austria and Switzerland, was $325,000.

A new buyer has also been found for the peach hat created by John Boyd, which Diana wore on her honeymoon in 1981. The winning bidder paid $26,000 for it.

Legendary Lady Dior handbag breaks auction record

Among the Lady Di accessories available at the auction, the highest price was achieved by a Dior lambskin case, which Diana received as a gift from the then First Lady of France, Bernadette Chirac, in 1995. Due to the aristocrat's fondness for this model, it was eventually named in her honor, renaming the Chouchou bag to Lady Dior. The iconic accessory was sold for $325,000.
