Jim Jarmusch's latest film will compete for the Golden Lion

Jim Jarmusch's latest film will compete for the Golden Lion

Legendary independent filmmaker Jim Jarmusch's latest film, "Father Mother Sister Brother," will be released later this year. The first photos from this highly anticipated production were unveiled alongside the announcement of its premiere at this year's Venice Film Festival.

The 82nd Venice Film Festival will take place from August 27th to September 6th . On Tuesday, July 22nd, the films competing for the Golden Lion in the main competition were announced. Among them is Jim Jarmusch's "Father, Mother, Sister, Brother." This will be the first time the director of films such as "Stranger Than Paradise," "Broken Flowers," and "Paterson" has won the Golden Lion. In 2003, his "Coffee and Cigarettes" was shown out of competition at Venice.

"Father, Mother, Sister, Brother" is planned as a triptych, with three stories exploring the relationship between adult children and their estranged parents. Each of the three stories will take place in the present day but in a different country. "Father" will take place in the United States, "Mother" in Ireland, and "Sister Brother" in France.

"Father Mother Sister Brother: Who stars in Jim Jarmusch's film?

Jim Jarmusch wrote the screenplay for the film, which stars Tom Waits, Adam Driver, Mayim Bialik, Charlotte Rampling, Cate Blanchett, Vicky Krieps, Sarah Greene, Indya Moore, Luka Sabbat, and Francoise Lebrun . Some of the characters can be seen in the first photos from "Father, Mother, Sister, Brother."

"My project is a kind of anti-action cinema, whose subtle and quiet style has been carefully constructed to allow for the accumulation of small details. Almost like flowers arranged in three delicate arrangements. Working with masterful cinematographers Frederick Elmes and Yorick Le Saux, the brilliant editor Affonso Goncalves, and my other frequent collaborators elevates what began as words on a page into a form of pure cinema," Jarmusch stated, according to IndieWire.
