A gigantic sculpture by Mitoraj has been installed in Warsaw. It's a preview of the September art auction.

On August 16, 2025, the Polswiss Art Auction House will host an Auction of Sculptures and Spatial Objects. The event's catalog includes a four-meter sculpture by Igor Mitoraj, currently on display at Warsaw's Three Crosses Square. All indications are that the work of art will sell for a record sum.
The Polswiss Art Auction House is preparing for this year's Sculpture and Spatial Objects Auction . The event is scheduled for September 16, 2025, and the catalog includes works by Magdalena Abakanowicz , Henryk Kuna , Piotr Waligóra , and Adam Myjak, among others.
You will also be able to bid on the famous sculpture "Tindaro" by Igor Mitoraj , which you can see at Warsaw's Three Crosses Square .
The four-meter bust of Tyndareus , king of Sparta and father of Helen of Troy, is one of many works by Mitoraj in which he entered into a dialogue with antiquity.

As we read in the description on the auction house's website, one of the bronze sculpture's distinguishing features is the elaborate form of its rear section . It consists of two slender pillars that support the structure from the center. Igor Mitoraj placed reliefs on them in the form of a bandaged bust, which are a reference to another of his works, "Argos."

That's not all. The pillars surround a mascaron with curling, curly hair and an open mouth, giving "Tindaro" the nickname "a sculpture within a sculpture."
" Mitoraj's work combines classical beauty with a subtle yet distinct tension between perfection and imperfection. The fragmentation here is not the result of destruction, but a conscious device that—like an echo of the ruins of the ancient world—invites reflection on the transience, memory, and permanence of art," we read in the description on the Polswiss Art Auction House website.

The work, which will soon find a new owner, is an absolute rarity, cast only once. Until recently, it could be seen in front of the office building of the international organization KPMG in the La Défense district of Paris. Currently, the sculpture is located in the Place Trzech Krzyży (Three Crosses Square), where it can be admired.

Would you like this colossus all to yourself? There's a chance, but... "These things aren't cheap." The starting price for "Tindaro" is four million złoty, and auction house representatives suggest the final price could reach as much as seven million złoty.
- "Tindaro" has a chance to set a new price record for the artist and be one of the most important transactions on the auction market this year - said Marta Rydzyńska from Polswiss Art in an interview with TVP .
We will be following this auction closely and can't wait to see the results.
