President-elect Karol Nawrocki wants a guaranteed increase in pensions and disability benefits by at least 150 złoty in 2026. Meanwhile, the government proposes a 4.9 percent increase. The first proposal is more beneficial for the poorest retirees.
- President-elect Karol Nawrocki wants a guaranteed increase in pensions and disability benefits by at least PLN 150 in 2026.
- The government, in turn, proposes a 4.9 percent rate. For pensions below PLN 3,000, this means an increase below the PLN 150 mentioned above.
- The changes proposed by Nawrocki would benefit the poorest pensioners - people receiving up to approximately PLN 3,000 gross - Super Express calculates
Donald Tusk's government adopted a project providing for an increase in pensions and disability benefits by 4.9 percent.
- This means that, for example, a benefit of PLN 2,000 gross would increase by PLN 98. In Karol Nawrocki's version: PLN 150.
President-elect Karol Nawrocki announced an alternative proposal: a guaranteed indexation of at least PLN 150 gross per year, regardless of the indexation percentage. He also announced that the draft law on the PLN 150 indexation of benefits would be ready immediately after his inauguration on August 6th.
The changes proposed by Nawrocki would benefit the poorest pensioners – those receiving up to approximately PLN 3,000 gross.
- For example, the benefit of PLN 2,733 would increase by PLN 134 in the government version (percentage increase), while according to the presidential project - by a full PLN 150 .
Tusk and Nawrocki's indexation is at the same level for benefits of PLN 3,000 gross . At this amount, the percentage increase is more than PLN 150, so the benefit conversion rate, as proposed by Nawrocki (minimum PLN 150), is the same as the government's percentage increase.
The average pension for women in Poland, paid by the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS), in April 2025 was PLN 3,011 gross, while for men it was over PLN 4,500.
