Although they are readily available, tasty, and seem like a healthy snack, their composition leaves much to be desired. Regular consumption can have a serious impact on health, warns "Fakt" about the popular dairy product.
They're popular, inexpensive, and a favorite, especially among children. Although they seem like a healthy snack, their ingredients leave much to be desired. These are homogenized cheeses , a childhood delicacy that can now be found in stores in a variety of flavors. And it's precisely these flavored versions that are most detrimental to health.
They contain significant amounts of sugar (up to 13 g/100 g), glucose-fructose syrup, guar gum and artificial flavors - points out, citing the portals planeta.pl and Poradnik Zdrowie Fakt.pl.
Nutritionists warn that regular consumption of homogenized cheese may lead to:
- obesity,
- insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes,
- hypertension,
- heart disease,
- lipid metabolism disorders.
Despite this, they are still a popular choice, as Poles are reluctant to check the ingredients of the products they buy.
When comparing the nutritional values of cheese and yogurt, the latter fares much better, especially natural yogurts. They contain less sugar (approx. 5-9 g/100 g), more calcium (134 mg/100 g), and less phosphorus, which interferes with its absorption.
Homogenized cheese, on the other hand, provides more protein (up to 16.8 g/100 g), but also a lot of sugar and phosphorus, which may even negatively affect the mineral balance in the body.
Children are, of course, most at risk of the harmful effects of eating cheese, as they most often choose fruit and chocolate versions.
