It’s almost time to put away your raffia tote and lobster-embellished shoulder bag: fall is almost here. We’ve analyzed the fall/winter 2025 runways for the best fashion trends—and the bags the models carried with them—to determine which trends you’ll be toting around this season, both transitional and beyond. From bold animal prints to must-have color ways, shop our favorite bag trends for fall below.
Embossed Skins
Suddenly, eels, lizards, and crocodiles seem a little less frightening. It’s hard not to fall in love when they look this good. Snakeskin, in particular, is having a huge year and was featured at the Valentino, Miu Miu, and Stella McCartney shows. And if you like to take the road less traveled, Gucci, Fendi, and Jil Sander opted for alternative skins.
East-West Clutches
Last season, Bottega Veneta debuted an east-west clutch, and this season, even more cropped up in collections from Chanel, Courrèges, and Victoria Beckham. Even if you’re already on the wave of east-west shoulder bags, get ready to swap those in for handheld iterations.
Zebra Takeover
If there’s one animal print you’re going to see a lot more of, it’s zebra. Leopard has dominated the markets, the streets, and the social feeds (and it still will, don’t get us wrong). Zebra, though, is the refreshing comeback we’ve been predicting for months. It’s ultra-chic but also very Y2K-coded, a perfect balance of campy and tasteful.
Burgundy Babes
After a surprising uptick in summer burgundies, we’ll surely see even more wine tones as fall begins. Oxblood, dark cherry, and maroon will be popular wardrobe choices, as will be other jewel tones like emerald green and citrine orange.
Super Saturated
Fall will be a technicolor dream, if the runways have anything to say about it. From vibrant canary to deep cobalt, stand out amongst the ever-darkening skies with hues that are meant to shine through fall, winter, spring, and summer.
Nécessaire
Have you ever owned luggage so darling that it felt like a shame to only use while traveling? That’s precisely the mood of the nécessaire trend. While Louis Vuitton took a more trunk-like approach, Victoria Beckham and Hermès went with more jewelry case-like silhouettes.
Frame/Pinch Closure
It’s a little hard to describe this style of bag, but you know it when you see it. It’s reminiscent of old-school coin purses with kiss-lock closures, but it didn’t feel dated on the runways at Rokh, Prada, or Gabriela Hearst. These structured, partially-framed bags give the impression that you know your way around the classiest vintage boutiques.
Micro Bags
Could it be? Are we going back to tiny bags? From the looks of it at Calvin Klein, Chloé, and Chanel, the rumors are true. What began as playful bag charms to adorn larger counterparts is now the main attraction. You heard it here first: Micro purses are back.
