The world in the grip of heat in NASA's timelapse video

Europe and the world appear to be glowing under the heat of a new NASA timelapse animation, which shows surface temperatures over the past two weeks, from June 16 to July 1.

The video, made by the Global Modeling and Assimilation Office of the US space agency, shows the record heat crossing the Old Continent like a fiery red wave that then becomes black as ash as temperatures rise over the days. In addition to Italy, the situation also appears particularly critical in the Iberian Peninsula, southern France, Greece and the Balkan region.
