Meta Tears Three Researchers Away From OpenAI for 'Superintelligence'

Meta snatches three researchers from OpenAI, the parent company of ChatGpt, for its "superintelligence" team. The Wall Street Journal reports, specifying that the three employees are Lucas Beyer, Alexander Kolesnikov and Xiaohua Zhai, all employed at OpenAI's Zurich headquarters. Just a few days ago, CEO Sam Altman had accused the owner of Facebook of trying to steal his employees by offering a bonus of 100 thousand dollars to recruit them.

An OpenAI spokesperson confirmed the departures of the three researchers to the publication, without providing further details. Meta did not respond to a request for comment. Initially recognized as a leader in open-source AI models, Meta has endured a season of layoffs and delayed the launch of new AI models to compete with rivals from Google, OpenAI itself, and China’s DeepSeek. And it is seeking a revival in the sector. It also recently hired the 28-year-old CEO of AI company Scale AI, Alexandr Wang, to work on its “superintelligence” projects. The company also acquired a 49% stake in Scale AI for $14.3 billion.
