International School of Heliophysics in L'Aquila: a focus on multi-scale coupling of systems

International School of Heliophysics in L'Aquila: a focus on multi-scale coupling of systems

The intensive course exploring solar activity, geomagnetic storms and Space Weather with young researchers and international experts is underway

The long-awaited International School " Cross-scale coupling of Heliophysics Systems " started today at the prestigious "Luigi Zordan" Congress Center in L'Aquila. This high-level initiative is the result of collaboration between the Consortium Area di Ricerca in Astrogeofisica, the University of L'Aquila, the National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF) and the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV).

The intensive course, which will last until Friday, May 16, is designed as an advanced discussion forum on topics of crucial importance for the understanding of our solar system and its impact on our planet . The focus will be on solar activity, analyzing the dynamics of coronal explosions and the subsequent propagation of coronal structures through interplanetary space. A central element of the program will be the exploration of the intricate interaction between the Earth's magnetosphere and ionosphere, phenomena that play a fundamental role in the genesis of geomagnetic storms and, more generally, of the so-called Space Weather .

The International School boasts the prestigious patronage of leading bodies in the space scene, including the European Space Agency (ESA), testifying to the significant scientific and educational value of the initiative . The event welcomes a selected group of fifty young researchers from academic institutions and research centers around the world . These promising scientists will have the unique opportunity to learn and interact with some of the most authoritative experts in the field, who will guide their activities through lectures, seminars and discussion sessions.

The initiative represents an important opportunity to promote the exchange of cutting-edge knowledge and to stimulate the growth of a new generation of researchers dedicated to the study of heliophysics and its implications for technology and life on Earth . The choice of L'Aquila as the venue for the event underlines the growing role of the Abruzzo region in the panorama of international scientific research.
