Google Updates Gemini, AI Recognizes 'Whistled' Songs

Gemini Assistant on Android has been updated to identify songs that are playing, including those sung or whistled, a feature that was previously exclusive to the "old" Google Assistant. When a user asks "what song is this?", Gemini launches the song search function in the separate Google app, which will display the answer. This is not a native activity, inserted directly into the generative AI, but a command that automatically opens the Google Search app. Previously, when asked to identify the song that is playing, Gemini recommended installing a dedicated app.
As identified by the site 9to5google, this is still good news for those who were used to using third-party applications to recognize songs, such as Shazam.
The new feature is currently rolling out to the Android version of Gemini, but is not yet planned for iPhone. Gemini is gradually replacing Google Assistant on Android devices, and this transition should be complete by the end of 2025.
The Pixel series smartphones, produced by Google, have a dedicated function for the recognition of songs, which can respond even without an internet connection, thanks to the periodically updated database. In addition, on the Pixels a personal listening history is created, which can be checked as a list of identified songs.
