Dreame A2 Robot Lawnmower: Less Work, More Weekends to Enjoy

In the summer, it's nice to relax in the garden, but you have to take care of it, and having to do it every weekend can be frustrating. If your lawn is small, you can compromise on the hour or so you can dedicate to it, but for larger areas, the latest-generation robot lawnmowers are very useful. But do they really work? We tested the Dreame Roboticmower A2, designed for fairly large lawns and packed with technology.
The Dreame A2 features a modern aesthetic and a durable ABS body, though it feels a bit plasticky. Its weatherproof certification allows it to work even in the rain. Weighing 16.4 kg and equipped with rubber gears, it can handle slopes of up to 27 degrees. Its large size makes it suitable for large gardens, yet it doesn't feel bulky.
One of the main limitations of automatic lawnmowers in the past was the need to fence off the area to be mowed with wire. Now, lawnmowers automatically recognize the lawn, and the A2 starts working without further assistance thanks to the OmniSense 2.0 system, which combines 3D LiDAR, a full HD camera, and artificial intelligence. This allows for autonomous mapping of the garden, obstacle recognition, and the ability to define cutting zones even if they're not adjacent. That's the theory. In practice, we encountered some problems if the lawn wasn't already well-mowed and free of obstacles. After a couple of less than satisfactory attempts at automatic zone recognition, we decided to define it "by hand," controlling the Dreame A2 via the app and having it define the perimeter. It never missed a beat, perfectly completing even turns of less than 90°, which the manual advises against.
The 22 cm rotor allows for coverage of up to 3,000 m² and the EdgeMaster system allows it to get as close to edges as 5 cm, while the steel blades and 60W brushless motor ensure good performance even on thick grass. The robot is also renowned for its quiet operation: just 56 dB. The cutting height varies from 30 to 70 mm, with two selectable speeds.
In addition to navigation, the Dreame A2's camera can be used to remotely monitor your garden. It also features an advanced security system, including a PIN-based anti-theft system, GPS, an anti-lift alarm, and LTE connectivity. The built-in 4G SIM includes three years of service.
