Deezer flags songs created with AI

Deezer is the first music streaming platform to label songs created entirely with artificial intelligence. The goal is to prevent the spread of controlled listening, which generates fraudulent revenue. Research by the company states that often behind the artificial works there are scammers, who in addition to uploading the songs also develop automated software programs, bots, so that they listen to the tracks repeatedly, to increase traffic and collect royalties. For this reason, songs labeled as the result of AI will not participate in the reward programs on reproductions.

According to a note from Deezer, 18% of all new songs uploaded daily to the service are AI-generated. That's about 20,000 tracks per day. Using an internal detection system, Deezer can identify these songs with 95% accuracy by analyzing specific audio markers. While the company hasn't removed the content, it has decided to exclude it from royalty calculations to protect human artists' earnings and ensure that revenues aren't diluted by automated productions.

In December 2024, Deezer filed two patents for its AI detection technology, which focuses on different methods of detecting unique signatures used to distinguish synthetic content from authentic content.

According to a study conducted by the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers and French analysts Pmp Strategy, by 2028, nearly 25% of music creators' revenues will be at risk due to the impact of AI tools, with a value that could reach 4 billion euros.
