Astronomical Museum Dismantled, Rome Planetarium Closes for 3 Months

After the Astronomical Museum of Rome was completely dismantled last March, the Planetarium will have to close for three months due to the renovation work on the Museum of Roman Civilization , financed with 20 million euros under the Pnrr and scheduled for completion at the end of June 2026. The hypothesis of closing the current headquarters of the Planetarium of Rome and moving it to another location would thus seem to have been averted , at least for now. The decision, as far as we know, would be up to the Capitoline administration. At the moment, again as far as we know, the closure of the Planetarium is most likely scheduled from June 16 to September 15 to allow for the renovation work on the attics and skylights of the Museum of Roman Civilization. However, there has not yet been an official communication in this sense through the Planetarium website and, consequently, there are currently no alternative programs or a possible location in which to continue the activities during the summer. The Planetarium's furnishings and structures will remain in their location at the Museum of Roman Civilization for the entire duration of the works, while the Astronomical Museum will no longer exist, its hall having been emptied and used as a warehouse.
