In fashion, 2024 was a very complex year, 2025 will be even more so and we at Foglio della moda , who follow a mobile year all our own – we debuted on April 1, 2021, proudly enter the fifth year of publication. The unfavorable economic situation is not, however, the ultimate reason for the change underway, but only the most visible expression of the structural mutation of a system that, although it continues to produce a higher turnover than in pre-pandemic 2019 , for the last two years has shown a constant decline and the progressive shift of global consumption, but especially Western consumption, from clothing to home, travel, wellness, beauty.
The same idea of “heritage”, which has convinced dozens of managers to keep brands alive in the belief that their influence in terms of image and affection was still vast, translating into sales, is proving its inconsistency . There are legacies that are lost, stories from grandparents that do not make their grandchildren vibrate: procrastinating the evidence, keeping ghost brands alive, means burning billions of euros and also young and interesting creativity in which it would be worth investing, without forcing them to “rewrite the codes” of people who have been gone for decades, or retired, who were fashion for a society different from the one we live in. In the rare cases in which this miracle of balance has occurred, the true heirs have returned to the rear or even to the front row, that is, the minds, hearts, and intelligence of people who know these codes because they have lived them since birth.
We are, therefore, in the midst of another evolution. And we are very pleased to be able to bear witness to it with the “permanent” trace of a book, that is, this Yearbook supported also for this year by Banca Ifis and its project for the development of the country around the “economy of beauty” in which Il Foglio della moda collaborates with enthusiasm. Also for this edition we have collected, printed in a thousand numbered copies, bound by hand, distributed in quality bookstores and newsstands the numbers of our mobile year that has just ended , so that they can be preserved and consulted, enjoying first of all the plates of the “themes of the month” edited by Marco Dambrosio, aka Makkox. The plates of this absolute star of satire are not twelve but eleven: one, in fact, is edited by Silvia Aymonino, famous costume designer, who for the December issue, linked to the opera and the “First” of the Teatro alla Scala, wanted to give us the cover of her work book for the “Forza del destino” by Giuseppe Verdi. The community of the Foglio della moda is not only increasingly diverse, but it is also turning towards art, cinema, and theatre, now inseparable partners of fashion . The change taking place is not only industrial, but also cultural. An excellent sign.
