See you at Nomad, where beauty is at home

The funniest anecdote that Nicolas Bellavance-Lecompte tells – after having ideally cut the ribbon of the latest edition of Nomad, in Sankt Moritz until Sunday 23 February – is linked to the place that hosts the fair-event founded in 2017 together with Giorgio Pace (and of which door, the interior magazine of Repubblica, is the main media partner).

Or rather the former Klinik Gut, an orthopedic clinic on via Arona 34 where for years residents and vacationers have found refuge to treat injuries (sprains, fractures) sustained on the ski slopes and now moved to a larger location a few kilometers away. A story that says that even in the days of pre-set-up, between gallery owners in distress and workers in action, some injured tourists limped through packages and boxes in search of a competent doctor.

The greatest expertise here is instead all linked to the ability to select the beauty of beauty: between contemporary works of art, collectible design and high jewellery. With 45 exhibitors, including old friends of Nomad (David Gill London, Robilant+Voena, Negropontes to name a few) and new arrivals (Todd Merrill New York and Craftica Warsaw), with a strong presence of Italians who count (Lia Rumma, Monica De Cardenas, Nilufar Milano, Secci and Rossana Orlandi) and a pop-up restaurant like a-Ma-Re Capri, designed by Giuliano Dell'Uva.

Beyond everything, the charm of the chosen locations and the added value of experimentation that has accompanied it for some seasons, one figure is enough to explain the added value of Nomad: a minute and a half at most. It is the average time that a visitor dedicates to art galleries and exhibitors in large international fairs and institutional events (Art Basel or Frieze, just to name two). At Nomad, on the other hand, it is like being in the company of a large creative family: you meet, you find each other, you chat, you discover, you buy without haste and without stress. Here the experience is truly relationship and participation.
