The white parchment at the Maschio Angioino: Naples commemorates Cava's loyalty to King Ferrante of Aragon.

The white parchment at the Maschio Angioino: Naples commemorates Cava's loyalty to King Ferrante of Aragon.

History and tradition combine at the Maschio Angioino in Naples, where next Thursday, September 4th, the tenth edition of "The White Parchment. At the Court of King Ferrante" will take place. This theatrical performance commemorates the memorable events of 1460, when the city of Cava de' Tirreni demonstrated its loyalty to the Aragonese by repelling the Angevin siege in battle. This epic victory rewarded the Cava residents by King Ferrante of Aragon, who on September 4th granted them the title of "Most Faithful City" and the so-called "White Parchment," a document signed by the sovereign that granted citizens the right to request any type of privilege. The performance, presented at the Naples City Hall, will return for the first time in 15 years to Castel Nuovo, the exact place where the story was written. The free performance will feature historical costumes, immersively evoking the atmosphere of the 15th century. Felice Abate, president of the Città de la Cava Flag-Wavers Association, and Andrea Carraro, the show's director, explained the details. They were welcomed at Palazzo San Giacomo by Teresa Armato, Naples' Tourism Councilor.
