The extraordinary Ugo Pagliai at the Teatro dell'Efebo
A complicated yet timeless work, curated and brought to the stage at the Teatro dell'Efebo by Daniele Salvo, based on a text by Luigi Raimo. "Ovid the Relegated Poet. Metamorphosis of Exile," starring the great Ugo Pagliai, well supported by performances by Daniele Salvo, Barbara Capucci, and Tommaso Garrè, stands the test of time and captures a raw, almost desperate dimension of Ovid, forced into exile despite his guilt, yet capable of bringing the stories of his masterpiece to life like never before.
Ugo Pagliai's artistic stature is always astonishing, despite his 87 years of age. He is intense, at times thunderous, and moving, throughout the full breadth of a career spanning over 60 years, establishing him as one of the great theater performers, not to mention his legacy in television dramas and film. At the end of the evening, a moving tribute was offered to Paola Gassman, Ugo Pagliai's lifelong companion, who passed away last year and who took part in the national premiere of this show in Agrigento in 2022.
Giuseppe Pendolino, president of the Libero Consorzio di Agrigento, is pleased with the positive response from audiences to the Classical Theater festival, which will continue to provide enjoyable entertainment for residents and tourists in upcoming performances. The next performance, scheduled for July 31st at 9:00 PM, will feature another well-known actor at the Teatro dell'Efebo, Emilio Solfrizzi, who will perform his "Plautus' Amphitryon."
