Mandalas and reflections with Tibetan monks at Dal Verme Castle

August 7, 2025
ZAVATTARELLO (Pavia) From yesterday until Sunday, Dal Verme Castle will host the Drepung monks for a journey through Tibetan spirituality, art, and tradition. A " Mandala for Zavattarello " is the name given to the days of ceremonies, meditation, children's workshops, and a mandala that comes to life day after day. The event aims to introduce participants to Tibetan culture . The term "mandala" comes from Sanskrit and means "circle." Traditionally, a mandala is a geometric design or pattern that represents the cosmos and the deities in different worlds. The act of creating and then destroying a mandala, as occurs during the event in Zavattarello, is a ritual that teaches detachment from material things and acceptance of the transience of life. In addition to the colored sand mandala and the traditional craft market, the monks will perform blessings and "Puja" (rituals) and offer insights into spiritual themes such as Tibetan Buddhist meditation, and historical themes such as the history of Tibet and the resilience of its people. The halls of Dal Verme Castle will also host an exhibition of "Thangkas," traditional Tibetan painted or embroidered banners.
