A passionate and documented journey into the beating heart of the 80s, with the story of the great concert organized by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure
On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Live Aid , the historic charity concert of 13 July 1985, 'Live Aid: The sound of an era. The Eighties and the dream of a better world', the new book by Gabriele Medeot , a storyteller in the music field and professional musician for over 30 years, will be released on Friday 4 July. The author will present the book between words and music on Tuesday 8 July at the Hard Rock Cafe in Milan (7:00 pm, free admission until all seats are taken) and Wednesday 9 July at the Libreria tra le Righe in Rome (6:30 pm). The story of the anecdotes that make this book unique will be interspersed with Medeot's performance of some covers of Live Aid songs on the piano, together with Laura Panetta on vocals.
The volume, with a preface by Franco Zanetti, retraces the greatest musical event of the century - Live Aid on July 13, 1985 - restoring all its historical, cultural and emotional power. Over 16 uninterrupted hours of music, 1 stage in London and 1 in Philadelphia, 16 satellites for a global broadcast with over 90% of the world's televisions connected during the event, over 70 artists for a stellar cast including Paul McCartney, Queen, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Madonna, U2 and many others. "In short, the best music of the decade, performed live, by the most famous and influential artists, all virtually on the same stage, without interruption, with everyone united in the name of a single voice: that of solidarity", writes Gabriele Medeot.
The author interweaves biography, news, analysis and advice on the soundtrack that can accompany the reading, to tell ten years of global transformations: from the crisis of the Keynesian economic model to the birth of the MTV generation, passing through Reagan, Thatcher, the fall of the Berlin Wall and the struggle for survival in an increasingly fast and complex world. A passionate and documented journey into the beating heart of the 80s, between geopolitical changes and dreams that come true, first of all this great charity concert organized by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure. With an engaging style and rich in details 'Live Aid: The sound of an era', is at the same time a historical essay and a personal tribute, a narration that ignites the memories of those who lived through those years and enlightens those who want to understand their impact even today.
