Journey to Ghost Towns with Biondi's New Book
Ghost Towns and Invisible Memories: Beniamino Biondi Presents His New Book at Villa Genuardi
AGRIGENTO – The new book by Beniamino Biondi entitled “Nell'isola che non c'è. Guida ai borghi fantasma di Sicilia” (Edizioni Il Palindromo), released on June 27 in all Italian bookstores , will be presented on Thursday 3 July at 5:30 pm at the Auditorium of Villa Genuardi, home of the Superintendency of Cultural Heritage of Agrigento.
The event, which is part of the program of events linked to Agrigento Italian Capital of Culture 2025 , will be opened by institutional greetings from the mayor Francesco Miccichè , the president of the Agrigento 2025 Foundation Maria Teresa Cucinotta , the general director Giuseppe Parello and the superintendent Vincenzo Rinaldi .
The literary blogger and event curator Alice Titone will be in conversation with the author. During the meeting, historical films dedicated to Sicilian rural villages will be shown, with particular reference to the years of fascism and the post-war agrarian reform .
The volume is presented as a hybrid between historical essay, narrative reportage and geographical guide , with special attention to the abandoned architecture and human events that marked the birth and decline of these “invisible towns” of Sicily. The text is accompanied by a rich photographic selection and a map that precisely locates their distribution on the territory.
In the preface, urban planner Maurizio Carta defines the book as “one of those texts that do not end with the last page, but that generate new worlds, multiply stories and open doors”. A definition that fits well with the evocative and documentary approach of Biondi's work.
The evening will end with a debate with the public and the signing of copies by the author. Free admission until all seats are taken.
