Castronno - The environmental legacy of Pope Francis: a dialogue on climate and future in Materia - - Varese News

While the planet is registering record temperatures and 2024 ended as the hottest year ever observed, the topic of climate change seems paradoxically to have slipped to the margins of public debate. Is it still a problem? Or has the habituation to the emergency anesthetized public opinion?
The meeting “The challenge of climate change. The legacy of Pope Francis” , scheduled for Tuesday 17 June at 9:00 pm at Materia Spazio Libero (via Confalonieri 5, Sant'Alessandro) , will try to answer these questions.
BOOK YOUR PLACE HEREThe evening will feature a dialogue between two authoritative voices from different but complementary fields: science and theology. Giacomo Grassi , a scientist at the European Commission's Joint Research Centre in Ispra and a member of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) Bureau, will bring the perspective of someone who works at the intersection of research and international policies to combat the climate crisis.
Alongside him, Marco Vergottini , theologian and professor at the Theological Faculty of Sicily, a former close collaborator of Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini, will offer a reflection on the spiritual and cultural legacy of Pope Francis, in particular starting from the encyclical Laudato si' , which relaunched the centrality of the ecological question within the Christian vision of the world.
