Capalbio Libri, the program for the August 3rd evening: a focus on the dark roots of the new Italian right and beyond. Affaritaliani media partner.

Mirella Serri traces the origins and identifies the common thread between the racist, neo-fascist, and neo-Nazi movements of the French far right of the 1960s and the "right wing" of the Meloni government.
Since her political debut, Giorgia Meloni has demonstrated her inheritance of a rich cultural heritage and the voice of a broad theoretical framework : hers has always been a "Right of the Right," as it has been called, a Right with a very well-defined ideological and value system, albeit one always skillfully kept in the background. Meloni's right has its roots in the French and German movements of the 1960s and in the myths and theories bequeathed by the rarely mentioned Pino Rauti to his successors, largely united under the banner of the Brothers of Italy. In recent years, Mussolini's words and the sovereignist and racist doctrines that have fueled populism, Euroscepticism, and hostility toward immigrants have returned to prominence. With her ideological apparatus at her disposal, Giorgia Meloni can surpass her predecessors, from Fini to Berlusconi, and venture without embarrassment into her own political twists and turns, from Putin to Trump via Biden, from attacks on the European Union to solidarity with von der Leyen.
In this History of Jazz, Stefano Zenni draws on multiple perspectives that consider the relationships between individuals and geographical movements —from intercontinental migrations to local urban dynamics—the intertwining of genres, the connection between improvisation and composition, and clarifies its connections with other forms of music, from European classical to rock. To understand the evolution of jazz, it is essential to explore the intricate cultural and artistic interactions that have accompanied its development, from its African roots in the 16th century to its birth in the Americas and its diffusion starting in the 20th century. This process must be analyzed by considering the diverse contexts in which it developed (clubs, dance halls, theaters), the professional figures involved (such as producers and managers), the dynamics of the music industry, and its connections with political movements.

Hundreds of jazz masterpieces are presented to the reader with solid musicological foundations, offering a selective guide to essential listening. Maps, created specifically for the book, underscore the geographical dimension of the narrative and clarify the expressive relationships between styles and musicians, exploring connections with Europe, Africa, Latin America, India, Japan, and Russia. Stefano Zenni reworks and develops the research conducted in his previous History of Jazz (2012), presenting an updated, revised, and expanded version. In particular, a new section focuses on the current scene, examining the influence of electronic music, connections with hip hop, leading figures in the contemporary scene in the United States, connections with world music, and the emergence of new geographical and stylistic areas, from Africa to Northern Europe.
