Budget changes approved: green light for work on the Pirandello Theatre and the Civic Museum.
But now the ball is in the technical office's court. It won't be long before this happens.
After weeks of waiting and failed attempts due to a lack of a quorum, the Agrigento City Council approved this morning, at its second meeting, the budget changes needed to finance two strategic projects: the renovation of the roof of the Pirandello Theatre and works for the Civic Museum .
A political step that was not to be taken for granted, achieved thanks to the determination of president Giovanni Civiltà and mediation with mayor Francesco Miccichè , which allowed the numbers to be recovered after the stalemate last Thursday.
The first vote had 15 votes in favor , but that number dropped to 13 in the second when Councilor Francesco Alfano walked out of the chamber. Despite this, the bill was approved with immediate effect, thus avoiding what would have been a double setback: institutionally, due to the lack of a majority, and politically, due to the potential waste of time and resources.
Indeed, without the approval of the variations , it would have been necessary to wait for the budget forecast , which would take longer. Thanks to this tool, however, it will be possible to use the funds already available immediately .
However, work will not begin immediately : despite the immediate implementation, the technical deadlines are now being activated . The ball is now in the municipal technical office's court, which is responsible for preparing the executive projects, tenders, and all the necessary documents to actually start construction.
A journey that is still long, but which marks a fundamental step forward for the protection and enhancement of the city's cultural heritage, in a year in which Agrigento was called upon to demonstrate its best as Italian Capital of Culture 2025 .
