Books, the presentation of the volume 'La Flotta' by Flavio De Luca on June 11th

The event at the Treccani Institute with Giuliano Amato and Antonio Badini

What were the key steps in the hijacking of the Achille Lauro? How did the Sigonella crisis come about? Why did the investigation into the administration of the Lauro Fleet change the relationship between the judiciary, the press and political power forever? Historical questions and trials in Italy in the 1980s and 1990s that intertwine with the human story of Flavio de Luca. The former commissioner of what was once the largest commercial shipping company in the Mediterranean tells his story in the book 'La Flotta-prova generale di Tangentopoli', out in bookstores for the 'Black Line' series by Graus Edizioni.

The book will be presented on June 11th at 5:30 pm in the Sala Igea of Palazzo Mattei di Paganica in Rome at the Institute of the Italian Encyclopedia Treccani. In addition to the author of the book, former Prime Minister Giuliano Amato and Ambassador Antonio Badini, Bettino Craxi's diplomatic advisor at the time, will be present. Journalist Greta Mauro will moderate the meeting.

The personal story of Flavio de Luca takes place in a Naples defined as the "political capital of Italy in the 80s" at the top of a company, Flotta Lauro, which represented for the Neapolitan city "what Fiat was for Turin". "Having become commissioner at just thirty years of age, in a hostile and skeptical environment, de Luca - we read in a note - will be the perfect target of a judiciary convinced of having found the link in the corrupt relationship between the business system and political parties. An accusatory system that will then be demolished by the Supreme Court".
