Andrew Davis in Bologna: From Osteria del Sole to Cinema Sotto le Stelle

Director Andrew Davis at Osteria del Sole: an unmissable stop in the history of Bolognese culinary culture.
Bologna, July 19, 2025 - American director Andrew Davis is enjoying a long vacation in Bologna. The 78-year-old Chicago native will be at the Cinema Sotto le Stelle in Piazza Maggiore this evening , hosted by the Cineteca di Bologna, to present one of his most famous films: "The Fugitive," starring Harrison Ford, for which he received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Director.
But Davis, who perhaps wanted to enjoy beautiful Bologna to the fullest, has already been in the city, strolling through the streets of the center, for a few days: on Wednesday , in fact, he made a pit stop in the alleys of the Quadrilatero, to be precise in Vicolo Ranocchi, for a glass of wine in the historic Osteria del Sole . He chatted with customers and took a few photos to soak up the traditional Bologna atmosphere and conviviality. On Thursday he was interviewed by Oscar Farinelli at the Mast : here he revealed that his next film will be based on the novel Disturbing the Bones , co-written with historian and journalist Jeff Biggers, who has lived in Italy, particularly Bologna, for many years, and which he will present on Monday at 6:30 pm at the Feltrinelli.
Specializing in action and crime films, Davis began his career on the big screen as a cameraman, then made his directorial debut in the late 1970s with 'Stony Island' . He directed many films in the 1990s with actor Steven Seagal , the most famous of which was 'The Undertaker', also starring Tommy Lee Jones. The following year, he achieved great success with 'The Fugitive' , which earned him a Golden Globe nomination and seven Oscar nominations. The only Oscar went to Tommy Lee Jones for best supporting actor .
Another great success came in 1998 with the remake of the Hitchcock classic 'A Perfect Murder' starring Michael Douglas and Gwyneth Paltrow.
