The £75million indoor tropical waterpark that nearly opened in the UK

A TROPICAL waterpark costing £75million nearly opened in the UK.
Elysium Water Park was due to be built in Bournemouth, spanning across 75 acres close to the airport.
However, the attraction never materialised.
The proposed waterpark and spa would have been the biggest in the UK and was projected to open in 2023.
The park would have been a year-round attraction, featuring both a tropical indoor and outdoor waterpark.
Rides would include virtual and augmented reality and there would have been transparent flumes.
The attraction was set to establish 500 jobs and be able to accommodate more than one million visitors each year.
At the time of the proposal, the project's website said that the destination would be "the ultimate waterpark paradise", including high-quality wellness facilities and beauty spa, with a sauna, hammam spa, massage and beauty treatments and exercise and dance options.
In addition, there were plans to build a lagoon surf park - developed through Adventure Out There 365.
Plans for the lagoon revealed that it would cost £35million and would feature a wave machine capable of producing more than 2,400 ocean-like waves per hour.
Building work on the complex, which planned to include a 145-bedroom hotel and glamping site, was expected to start in late 2019.
An X account for the project, said: "Elysium will offer so much more than just the core waterpark experience, and will also incorporate another significant trend, the water-based spa aimed at 18+ age group."
However, the project faced many hurdles including funding.
The site the project was due to be built on was also a green belt area and close to a site of special interest.
The scheme did not have planning consent and there were major infrastructure issues that would need to be looked into, including road improvements.
According to Companies House, the company then also dissolved in June last year and with it, the proposed waterpark.
