‘Amazing’ Amazon Prime period drama that fans label ‘perfection’

Amazon Prime customers have labelled a period drama on the streaming service "perfection" as they admit to binging it "all in one go". Amazon Prime is one of the most popular streaming services in the UK and it has a huge number of titles available for subscribers to watch, from documentaries to films to TV series. With so much choice on offer, it is easy to overlook certain films and shows, but there is one period drama that has been called a must-watch.
My Lady Jane is available to stream for all Amazon Prime customers and has received rave reviews since it first premiered in 2024. The series follows Lady Jane Grey and her husband Guildford, who live during the reign of Edward, son of Henry VIII. The historical fantasy drama sees Jane taking the throne in an alternate 16th-century England, becoming a target for criminals who want her head. However, there are some very unique elements to this Tudor show.
In this series, which doesn't depict actual historical events, there are two types of humans. There is one group that can change into animals and one group that stay as humans. While this twist might put a casual viewer off this period drama, fans say it is worth staying around for.
With an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 95 per cent, fans have had hugely positive things to say about this show. One reviewer wrote: "Such an interesting storyline, incredible humour, loved the chemistry between the leads."
Another said: "The plot is gripping, ensuring you're engaged throughout, while the narrator adds a clever mix of suspense and humor. The modern music, exclusively performed by female artists, adds an empowering and refreshing layer to this historical drama set in 1553."
A third called it "perfection itself" while another labelled it "amazing", noting the performances from the two lead actors, Emily Bader and Edward Bluemel. One person admitted: "I binged it all in one go! Must watch!"
However, fans of the show received bad news when it was announced that it would not be brought back for a second season. According to sources, the show simply did not pull in enough viewers.
Fans expressed their disappointment when news of My Lady Jane's cancellation was announced. One person wrote in a Rotten Tomatoes review: "I binged this series after bringing my new baby home this summer, and I have since rewatched it twice. I thought it was great! Fun, funny, romantic, chaotic. Just a really good watch. Highly recommend. Sad there won't be a second season. The cast is incredible!"
Another said: "I’m disappointed it was cancelled. All the clever shows are cancelled. Maybe somebody will write a book adaptation?"
Other fans went as far as to start a petition for Amazon Prime to renew My Lady Jane, and received more than 16,000 signatures. "We are tired of heartless, corporate, capitalistic, mega streaming platforms canceling actually good shows full of wonderful writing, performances, and storylines," the petition reads.
"This is THE enemies-to-lovers romance that the world needs right now. This is THE redemption arc for a Feminist icon of history that should continue on for multiple seasons. This is THE historical fantasy we all deserve and we're not letting it go that easily.
"Whether it stays on Prime or finds a new home, we must save this show. The cast deserves it. The crew deserves it. Lady Jane deserves it. No way did we rewrite her history just for her to get the axe again."
