For example, you can take a survival blanket and tape it to the outside of your windows (gold side inward). This won't replace air conditioning, but it will slow down the sun's rays and limit the rise in temperature. You can also soak a sheet in water and hang it in front of an open window. This can provide a slight cooling effect, provided there's a draft.
