In the afternoon, temperatures ranging from 35°C to 39°C and up to 40°C are expected in the southwest quarter of the country, and 35°C to 37°C in the center-east.
"The high temperatures will tend to intensify and spread over the coming days. They will continue into early next week," Météo France said. The orange alert is likely to be "gradually extended in future publications depending on how temperatures evolve," the same source emphasizes.
An orange heatwave alert means special vigilance, especially for "sensitive or exposed people," the site warns. Globally, despite a respite in the series of records, July 2025 ranked as the third hottest July ever recorded on Earth, marked by climate change still at work, the European Copernicus Observatory announced Thursday.
