Why laughing every day could be the best cure for stress

“Laughter is like practicing a yoga session!” According to Dr. Henri Rubinstein, a true laughter specialist and author of Psychosomatics of Laughter – Laughter to Heal, “laughing for 2 to 3 minutes a day is equivalent to 30 minutes of relaxation.” This is explained by the very mechanics of this manifestation of joy. When we laugh, we take a short breath followed by a respiratory plateau and finally, a long, jerky exhalation. This corresponds in part to the breathing exercises practiced during yoga.
Not to mention that our entire body benefits from this gentle exercise, from the diaphragm, shoulders, to the abdominals, including the feet and, of course, the face. Laughter has an impact on the quality of our sleep, our digestion, and our immune system.
Good for morale and health, laughter also serves an important social function by strengthening group bonds and reducing tension. In medicine, specialists are increasingly discussing laughter therapy.
