Six new cases of monkeypox in Quebec: Public health warns of a resurgence of the virus

SHARING
Six new cases of monkeypox have been reported in Quebec over the past two weeks. The Montreal Regional Public Health Department is calling for caution.
Four of these new cases were reportedly acquired in Montreal, while the other two may have been acquired abroad.
This brings the total number of cases in Quebec to nine so far in 2025.
The Montreal Regional Public Health Department recommends getting vaccinated. It reminds us that monkeypox can still be contracted despite the vaccine, but the symptoms will be milder.
There were 38 cases recorded in the province in 2024, compared to 11 in 2023. The largest outbreak occurred in 2022, the year the first cases appeared in Quebec, where 400 were recorded.
Monkeypox is transmitted primarily through skin-to-skin contact or through mucous membranes or body fluids.
