"I'm not filling my lungs fully, and I'm not emptying them either." Despite an alarming description of his breathing difficulties over the phone, Estéban Vermeesch was not taken care of by the emergency services on January 28. His mother, Dorothée, who works in a nursing home, describes him as "a wonderful big brother" on her social media, while her colleague and best friend, Morgane, spoke on RMC about him as "a dynamic, reserved, but always smiling person." His family has announced that they are filing a complaint for "involuntary manslaughter" and want to see the proceedings through to the end so that the staff's errors are acknowledged. The Le Mans hospital says it has acknowledged the family's wishes and assures that they will "fully cooperate with the proceedings." In addition, a claim for compensation from the Conciliation and Compensation Commission is currently being processed.
