Pollution in Lyon: Dust from the Sahara and smoke from Canada degrade air quality

Pollution in Lyon: Dust from the Sahara and smoke from Canada degrade air quality

Air quality in Lyon and the entire metropolitan area will be poor this Thursday, June 12, due in particular to dust from the Sahara and smoke from Canada.

Breathing is becoming less and less comfortable in Lyon and throughout the Lyon region. This Thursday, June 12, Atmo, the air quality observatory for Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, classified the overall air quality in the Lyon metropolitan area as poor.

Although the smoke-laden air masses from Canada should be evacuated during the day and should have less impact on atmospheric pollutant concentrations, clouds of dust from the Sahara could be brought in by the arrival of a southerly wind.

Thus, in Lyon, the concentration of multi-pollutants and fine particles will be poor this Thursday and degraded with regard to ozone.
