"The goal is to explain the strategy developed to have Essure victims recognized as victims. We are raising awareness among women; some are unaware that the implant is the cause of their suffering. In partnership with the law firm JVL and the litigation financing company Litfin, we launched this legal support initiative, which has already brought together more than 500 complaint files," explains Clara Wauquiez, the association's secretary general. Marielle Klein, from Spicheren near Forbach , was one of the whistleblowers regarding this contraceptive implant. The woman from Moselle will be present at the meeting in Metz to share her story.

Essure, a permanent contraceptive device marketed by Bayer, was implanted in 200,000 French women between 2002 and 2017. Several thousand of them reported serious adverse effects to the ANSM (French National Agency for the Safety of Medicines) such as chronic fatigue, memory loss, speech difficulties, neurological disorders, muscle and joint pain, etc. Already, more than 30,000 of them have had the implant removed, requiring major surgery. In 2017, the device lost its marketing authorization in Europe. Since 2018, it has no longer been marketed in any country. The women victims now want official recognition in the courts.
