Health: Family Planning warns of its reduction in public funding

Health: Family Planning warns of its reduction in public funding

"The state and local authorities are gradually withdrawing their financial support," laments the Family Planning Association, which brings together 82 associations present in mainland France and in the overseas departments and regions (DROM). It observes "budget cuts and reductions throughout the country."

"We are only at the beginning, it is important to mobilize immediately," declared Sarah Durocher, president of the feminist association, during a press conference, which is calling on public authorities to react.

A 10% reduction in the amount of subsidies from the Loiret department, a 20% reduction in those from the Drôme department and the complete elimination of those from the Pays de la Loire Regional Council: for the time being, nine associations in the network are affected by these reductions in subsidies.

Access to free contraception, abortion... "Attacking Family Planning is a direct attack on sexual and reproductive rights," Sarah Durocher emphasized. She said she is "worried" about the public welcomed and the future of the association.

Family Planning reaches 500,000 people each year through its various activities. It notably conducts activities in schools and medical consultations.

These budget cuts are "political choices," according to the association. They are part of a "global context" of challenging the rights of women and LGBT+ people.

Faced with these budget cuts, the Family Planning Agency is launching an online support campaign, notably through the creation of a kitty.
