Health. Heatwave: A cool shower, good or bad idea?

Public Health France itself says it: during a heatwave, " it is essential to avoid exposure to the heat , to drink and to cool off by getting your skin wet ( showers , etc.) ." Regarding showers, is a temperature that is too cool (or even cold) a good idea? The answer tends more towards "no."

A low-temperature shower obviously provides an immediate feeling of freshness and well-being. This is its main benefit.

Because, contrary to what one might think, it doesn't only have advantages. Paradoxically, cold showers actually end up warming us up. The reason is simple. The coldness tricks our body into overcompensating in order to produce more heat. The opposite of the intended goal.

Furthermore, too great a difference in temperature between the outside and the water can be harmful, particularly for patients suffering from heart disease.

As you can see, it's best to choose water at room temperature, or at least slightly lower. A word of advice: don't overdry yourself after getting out of the shower. The water will evaporate and help refresh you.
