Table salt substitutes are suggested to reduce sodium intake as part of a salt-free diet. However, potassium-based products can pose health risks to specific populations: those with heart and kidney failure, hypertension, diabetes, and the elderly.
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 1.9 million deaths per year worldwide are linked to excessive sodium consumption. Excessive sodium intake can lead to high blood pressure and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. This is why the WHO recommends consuming less than 2g of sodium per day (less than 5g of table salt).
