What is CinéMo, the bus that offers screenings in the Cannes la Bocca district? We explain everything.

As the Croisette lights up with flashbulbs and gala dresses, another screen opens, discreet but essential, a few kilometers from the Palais des Festivals. From May 13 to May 24, CinéMo, a 72-seat cinema truck, is setting up shop in the heart of Cannes' La Bocca district, in the parking lot of the Ranguin media library.
A unique initiative led by the Art Explora Foundation, in partnership with the CANAL + Foundation, to offer free cinema to those who are often excluded from it. With screenings, workshops, and debates, CinéMo doesn't just show films. It accompanies them, explains them, and makes them accessible. "This is an initiative to make cinema as truly accessible as possible," explains Noé Depres, the project's mediator.
Equipped with CNC (National Cinema Centre) standard equipment and 7.1 sound, this traveling cinema is committed to proximity, going to places where the 7th art is rare in working-class neighborhoods, rural areas and towns without a cinema. With, as a bonus, a demanding but open program: art house films, notable works from the Cannes Film Festival, previews of the 2025 edition, or even committed classics like Persepolis, Rosa Luxembourg or The King and the Mockingbird for younger audiences.
A cinema that moves and an audience that dares to enterThe official inauguration, scheduled for Saturday, May 17 at 2:30 p.m. in the presence of Rachida Dati, Minister of Culture, Frédéric Jousset for Art Explora and Stéphane Roussel for CANAL +, marks the beginning of a project with national reach. "The goal is to take cinema out of the Palais des Festivals and be able to take it where it never goes , " continues Noé Depres. The ambition is clear in reaching audiences who do not always dare to push open the door of a cinema, by offering them a welcoming space, without pressure, where one can discover, be moved and debate. Because at CinéMo, each screening is followed by a time for discussion, explanation, and listening.
A way to desacralize arthouse and experimental cinema, to break down cultural barriers. "Sometimes, people come, don't stay for the whole screening, but they come back the next day. We've had children, adults, curious people, people who said they didn't like it, but who change their minds. And that's already a victory," says the mediator. After Cannes, the truck will head to the Pays de Grasse, then to other territories forgotten by the screens. Alongside the largest film festival in the world, CinéMo offers another vision of the 7th art, more intimate, human and accessible. A screen in the neighborhoods, for a cinema that is shared, far from the steps, but close to the heart.
