The ephemeris of September 9, 2025: this Tuesday, Claude Nougaro would have celebrated his 96th birthday

Claude Nougaro (9 September 1929 – 4 March 2004) was a French poet and singer, a major figure in the song-and-lyric genre. Born in Toulouse, he combined the musicality of jazz and Latin rhythms with the richness of the French language.

Nicknamed the "Wordscientist," he turned every word into an instrument, creating timeless works like "Le Jazz et la Java" and "Toulouse," a vibrant anthem to his hometown. His career, punctuated by successes and periods of doubt, was that of an artist in perpetual search. His album "Nougayork," a return to his roots after a journey through the wilderness, marked his rebirth. Nougaro left a legacy of songs that combine poetry, swing, and deep emotions.
