Richard Mille RM 33-03, the art of skeletonizing

Richard Mille RM 33-03, the art of skeletonizing

The extreme watchmaker is once again reinterpreting its model released in 2011, this time in titanium or Carbon TPT, with a brand new skeletonized caliber.

You don't change a winning team. This is just as true for the core group of talents that have made Richard Mille's incredible success over the past two decades as it is for the brand's original models. Alongside new releases expertly distilled over time, and sometimes casually unveiled on the wrist of a Formula 1 driver, the extreme watchmaking brand is also careful to revisit its classics. This is particularly the case with its RM 33, originally released in 2011, and reinterpreted in 2019. The very sporty RM 33-02, designed as an everyday watch despite its technicality and extreme price, has thus pushed the boundaries of style. Now it's time for the RM 33-03 Automatic. While it adopts the codes of the previous model, it does so this time using a Grade 5 titanium or Carbon TPT case, just as lightweight and scratch-resistant, with a red gold caseband. Enough to last through time on your wrist without ever aging... These two watchmaking half-sisters measure 41.7 mm in diameter and 9.7 mm thick.

On the engine side, we find here a new automatic RMXP3 caliber skeletonized to the extreme, largely made of titanium, whether its baseplate or its bridges, to gain in rigidity as well as flatness. Entirely carried out by hand, sandblasting, microblasting, satin-finished surfaces and chamfering accentuate the volumes of the caliber offering 40 hours of power reserve. To further reinforce the three-dimensional architecture of the caliber, the numerals in 18-carat 5N red gold are mounted on rigid titanium rails positioned between the flange and the movement, overlooking the caliber. A dial that also draws the eye to the small seconds counter at 6 o'clock.

To ensure optimal winding of the eccentric rotor, the monobloc micro-rotor in solid platinum with an ideal weight/volume ratio has been designed to wind bidirectionally. Mounted on ceramic ball bearings and with bidirectional winding, this rotor delivers optimal energy while preserving the compactness of the movement. Who says Richard Mille always says watchmaking racing beast… Count on 115,000 CHF (approximately 125,000 €) for the titanium version, 145,000 CHF (approximately 155,000 €) for the Carbon TPT / red gold version.
