Rachida Dati wants to support artists with disabilities

Culture Minister Rachida Dati wants to support artists with disabilities and their companions, through several measures set out in Le Télégramme , before a visit to Brittany.
"In terms of cultural policy, there is currently a blind spot in supporting artists with disabilities," the minister told the daily, who wants to help them "develop their careers."
"The National Centre for Adapted Creation (CNCA) in Morlaix and the National Theatre of Brittany in Rennes have been implementing a system called Effraction for several years to welcome students with disabilities to the theatre school," she notes. "The idea is to draw inspiration from this model and generalise it. It will be extended to other higher education schools in the cultural sector, particularly art schools."
Ms. Dati also announced the launch of a nationwide experiment for "support workers who assist artists with disabilities," thanks to a partnership with the CNCA and the Association for Employment Assistance for People with Disabilities. "The goal is to recognize and professionalize this assistance," she stated, without providing further details.
These artists "also need to be programmed more," according to the minister, who promises to bring together "more regularly" a network (called "Inclusive Scenes") bringing together cultural institutions involved in the hosting, production, and distribution of their works.
Finally, "a ministry guide will be published to inform artists with disabilities about their rights, the assistance available and the resource structures to support them."
