Palestinian one-man shows cause a stir at the famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival

As the Edinburgh Fringe Festival draws to a close, two Palestinian comedians have resonated with audiences at the renowned Scottish festival. Alaa Shehada and Sami Abu Wardeh, whose performances showcase the daily violence of Palestinians under Israeli occupation, are among the artists already receiving awards.
Two unique one-man shows were highlighted among the 4,000 shows presented this year at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, one of the world's most prestigious performing arts festivals. Palestinians Alaa Shehada and Sami Abu Wardeh both received awards for The Horse of Jenin and Palestine: Peace of Resistance , respectively. two “stories about Palestinian resistance and life in the occupied territories,” reports the Emirati website The National .
The festival, which began on August 1 and ends on August 25, features two daring shows that use humor to address the harsh daily lives of Palestinians, particularly in the Palestinian territories occupied by Israel.
In The Horse of Jenin, “Shehada tells the story of a horse sculpture that stood in Jenin, in the occupied West Bank. The sculpture, made in 2003 from ruins left by an Israeli attack a year earlier, had become a symbol of resistance for Palestinians. Until an Israeli bulldozer destroyed it in 2023,” recalls The National .
