North American Box Office: Vanishing Keeps Its Throne Ahead of Freaky Friday 2

In its second week in theaters, Zach Cregger's horror film continues to dominate despite low attendance. Freaky Friday 2 and Nobody 2 round out the top three.
The horror film Vanishing continues to reign supreme at the top of the North American box office in its second week of release, according to estimates Sunday from specialist firm Exhibitor Relations. The Warner Bros. feature film, hailed by critics as a "classic" horror film, has grossed $25 million in recent days in the United States and Canada. A performance lower than during its first weekend of release, but which nevertheless remains "solid" given the low attendance in cinemas during these summer days, notes analyst David Gross. The thriller, directed by Zach Cregger and starring Julia Garner and Josh Brolin, depicts the mysterious disappearance of a dozen schoolchildren in the middle of the night.
It was followed by the second installment of the popular comedy Freaky Friday , which grossed $14.5 million. Titled "Still Being My Mother" in French, this Disney feature film revisits, 20 years later, the Coleman family played by stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan . In third place was the recently released action comedy Nobody 2. Actor Bob Odenkirk once again plays a family man who is far less ordinary and peaceful than he seems. It has grossed $9.3 million. " Critics are loving this story about a workaholic assassin who tries to take a vacation with his family but gets mixed up in trouble. The reviews and audience ratings are both very good ," notes Mr. Gross.
