American director Michael Mann will receive the 2025 Lumière Award next October. He succeeds actress Isabelle Huppert.

The results of the 2026 Lumière Award are in. For this 17th edition, Hollywood director Michael Mann succeeds actress Isabelle Huppert, winner of the 2024 Lumière Award. Also a screenwriter, the American will be honored at the festival held from October 11 to 19: "Presenting the Lumière Award to Michael Mann on Rue du Premier-Film is both a dream and a source of pride. As an auteur, Michael Mann has put into his films a vision of the world and of history that is never separated from flamboyant staging. Welcoming him to Lyon next October will be a major event for all film lovers ," says Thierry Frémaux, festival director.

Originally from Chicago and trained in London, Michael Mann is known for three of his masterpieces: The Last of the Mohicans (1992), Heat (1995) and the recent Revelations (2025), a political film nominated seven times for Oscars.

Having already passed through Lyon in 2017 for the screening of his film Heat , Michael Mann responded to the invitation from the Lumière festival by: "My answer is great, I'd love to do it. The previous edition of Lumière with Guillermo was a great night. Pure cinema. And a great time. It all sounds amazing. I'm in."

While some evenings are already on sale on the Lumière Festival website, fans of the director will have to wait a little while before booking their evening.
