It's the clandestine match, the unofficial face-off of this fortnight, the Hollywood clash at the top: in Un Certain Regard, the first films of Kristen Stewart and Scarlett Johansson are competing, respectively entitled " The Chronology of Water" and "Eleanor the Great." Sexy, isn't it? On the steps, yes, on screen, much less so. Let's start with "The Chronology of Water," presented last Saturday by a peroxide-blonde Stewart, hyper-stylish in a pink blouse and knee-high socks under an immaculate jacket and Bermuda shorts. Her arrogance intact and her stage fright palpable, the queer icon launched the screening with a "come on, let's rip off the band-aid and watch this fucking movie."

Adapted from the autobiographical book by a certain Lidia Yuknavitch, "The Mechanics of Fluids," "The Chronology of Water" traces the tortured life of a girl from Oregon, who, from swimming to writing to university teaching (her mentor was the author of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," Ken Kesey, played by the revenant James Belushi), searches for herself in alcohol, drugs and pain to escape...
