Donald Trump pushes Republican senators to adopt his "big, beautiful" budget bill

The 79-year-old Republican was apparently addressing lawmakers from his own party who are threatening to delay the process in Congress. Behind him stood Americans his administration believes would benefit from this mega-bill. The bill promises to deliver on some of the Republican's most important campaign promises .

First, the extension of massive tax credits passed during his first term, but also the elimination of the tip tax, and billions of additional dollars for border police to combat immigration. Already passed in the House of Representatives, the bill is currently being debated in the Senate, where some Republicans—in addition to all Democrats—are dragging their feet over certain planned cuts to public spending.

Because to finance—among other things—the colossal expansion of the "Trump tax credits," the bill plans to slash Medicaid, the public health insurance program on which millions of low-income Americans depend. It also plans to drastically reduce the Snap program, the country's main food aid program.

And if the Senate decides to significantly amend the bill to soften these cuts, it risks angering ultraconservative members of the House of Representatives, who have threatened to reject the new version when the House shuttles the bill back to them. While Republicans effectively control both houses of Congress, their margins are narrow enough that party officials know they cannot afford a large number of holdouts in their camp.
