Côte-d'Or. In the heart of Vingeanne, to discover its castles and hikes

On the borders of Côte-d'Or, Haute-Marne, and Haute-Saône, bordered by a pond and 370 lime trees, the Château de Fontaine-Française stands proudly. Located in the heart of the village, on the road to Dijon, in the Vingeanne Valley, the building, a former military fortress, was transformed into a castle in the 17th century . Featuring classical architecture, it has belonged to the Caumont La Force family since 1919, who open the site to visitors.
The building, listed as a historic monument, has around fifty rooms. Many historical figures have stayed there, such as François I , Madame de Staël, Voltaire and Henri IV. The Capetian has a special history with the town, having won the Battle of Fontaine-Française in 1595 against the Spanish troops.
The site is very accessible: by car, it is possible to park in the numerous free car parks in the town; for those traveling on the Marne-Saône canal, it is possible to come by bike from Saint-Maurice-sur-Vingeanne (7 km from Fontaine-Française) where there is a landing stage; for camper vans, there is a reserved and equipped area on the right bank of the Torcelle (Pont Vert, rue de Berthaut).
Twenty-five minutes from Fontaine-Française, another castle stands proudly in the heart of the Vingeanne: Talmay Castle. Construction began in the 13th century: a mighty square tower, topped with a pyramidal roof and crowned with a bell tower, is all that remains from this period. The building as we know it today was built in the 18th century. Listed as a historic monument, the castle belongs to the Bordeaux-Montrieux and Bonhoure families. Tours are scheduled at 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m., and 5 p.m. from August 1st to September 15th. These are guided tours that last approximately 45 minutes.
