'He can have all the fun he wants': Donald Trump calls Elon Musk's decision to start a party 'ridiculous'

"I think it's ridiculous to start a third party. We've had tremendous success with the Republican Party," Donald Trump told reporters before boarding his plane back to Washington.

"The Democrats are lost, but there's always been a two-party system, and I think launching a third party just adds confusion," the president continued. "Third parties have never worked," he asserted. "So he can have all the fun he wants with this, but I think it's ridiculous," the US president concluded.

Elon Musk and Donald Trump were once very close. The richest man on the planet contributed more than $270 million to the Republican's White House campaign. He notably spearheaded the Commission on Government Efficiency (DOGE), designed to drastically reduce federal spending. He was a regular in the Oval Office. He left DOGE in May to take over his businesses, particularly electric vehicle specialist Tesla, whose image and sales suffered worldwide as a result of this collaboration.
