The unknown beach of Huelva between dunes is a paradise for lovers of tranquility and is an hour from Seville.

The unknown beach of Huelva between dunes is a paradise for lovers of tranquility and is an hour from Seville.

In the heart of Doñana Natural Park , between Mazagón and Matalascañas, lies one of the quietest and most special beaches on the Huelva coast: Asperillo Beach , also known to many as Cuesta Maneli. Although it's not a great unknown, its somewhat more difficult access and its location in a protected environment keep it away from large crowds , even in the height of summer. An ideal place for those who prefer the sound of the sea and contact with nature over the hustle and bustle of the beach bars.

A walk between pines and dunes until you reach the sea

Reaching this beach requires a small amount of effort, but that's precisely what gives it part of its charm. From the parking lot, located next to the A-494 highway, a wooden walkway extends just over a kilometer through a landscape of dunes and native vegetation. The trail, known as Cuesta Maneli, runs through the Asperillo Cliff Natural Monument, an impressive system of fossil dunes that extends over 12 hectares and is part of the Doñana Natural Area.

During the walk, with hardly any shade, it is easy to be drawn into the surroundings: pine forests, junipers, Mediterranean scrub and unique plants such as the camarina , which only grows in some areas of the Atlantic coast and whose small white fruits feed many species in the park.

A wide, virgin and undeveloped beach

At the end of the trail, a natural lookout point offers a spectacular view of the coast before descending to the beach via a wooden staircase. From there, you access a wide stretch of fine, golden sand, completely unspoiled and free of any buildings. The landscape is open, with plenty of space to spread out your towel and enjoy the sea without crowding.

There are no services on the beach , except for a small beach bar during the summer months, so it is advisable to bring water, some food, and, of course, an umbrella.

Cuesta Maneli is also one of the province's most traditionally nudist beaches . If you walk to the left (facing the sea), you'll reach the area where nudists usually congregate. It's also a pet-friendly beach , so those who travel with their dogs can enjoy a day at the beach together without any problems.

How to get there from Seville

Getting there from Seville is very simple: just take the A-49 towards Huelva and turn off towards Almonte on the A-483 . From there, continue along the A-494 towards Mazagón, and halfway there, you'll find the well-signposted access to Cuesta Maneli. There's free parking right at the start of the footbridge, where the path leading to the beach begins.

And while Cuesta Maneli isn't a completely secret beach, it does have a distinct feel from other, more crowded beaches. There are no apartment blocks or large paved access roads here. What you get is a well-maintained natural environment, a clean, expansive beach, and the feeling of being far from the hustle and bustle, even though it's actually only an hour from Seville .
