Watch out! Authorities warn of scams involving fake photo tickets sent via WhatsApp and SMS; this is how they operate.

A new scam has become known , involving text messages and WhatsApp messages informing people they have traffic tickets.
Within these notifications you can find a link that directs to a web page similar to the Integrated Information System on Fines and Sanctions for Traffic Violations ( Simit ).
Recently, a video by content creator Nicolás Abril, who makes financial videos, went viral, talking about these forms of deception and theft.

Abril explained that the messages several users are receiving read: "Notification of traffic ticket (C29) - Driving a vehicle at a speed exceeding the permitted speed limit. - See report: (misleading link attached)."
By clicking on the link, people are redirected to the fraudulent page where their personal and financial information can be stolen .

The National Director of Simit of the Colombian Federation of Municipalities, Sandra Milena Tapias, also reported through a statement that: “ We have found web pages that copy the Simit website and when paying they direct you to a WhatsApp chat with the numbers 3019276962, 3017706096, 3203733054, 3114411682 and 3012097293 where using the logos of the Colombian Federation of Municipalities and Simit they make you believe that it is the Federation and ask for data such as the user's name and ID. to send statements of account with supposed discounts on the payment of traffic fines.”
He added that " to complete the scam, they send QR codes that direct users to bank accounts and virtual wallets that have no connection whatsoever with the Colombian Federation of Municipalities (SIMIT), and when the user sends the proof of payment, they receive a completely fake payment certificate."

According to the Colombian Federation of Municipalities, this is a system that allows citizens to pay fines anywhere in the country. They are part of the national registry of offenders, so offenders who are not cleared cannot file paperwork with the various traffic authorities.
How do you know if you have photo tickets?- Visit the official Simit website.
- In the 'Account Statement' box, enter your ID number or vehicle license plate number.
- Click on the magnifying glass icon to see the results.
Remember that you can make payments through the Simit portal using the payment methods enabled for this purpose. Depending on the payment options selected by the merchant, you can pay through PSE debit, savings, and checking accounts.
